Laughing liquid fabric of light
Where reeds and weeds gather night
Still wanes. Cars streak dusk with shadows,
Snake headlights through the meadows.
I watch the rabbits scatter,
The darkening field fade flatter,
Mapping my steps by the glow
Of fiery orange below
The stars, changing the red spring scene
Into a blue song of green.
The water, the grass, fill my eye,
And my head is filled with sky.
Spheres of warmth seem to splinter -
The crumbling tundra of winter
Returns - but only at night;
Today again I drink the light.
